The Ethereum ecosystem is ready for a “big test milestone”: Ropsten testnet Merge set to be conducted on June 8

According to the Merge testnets page on GitHub, Ethereum DevOps engineer Parathi Jayanathi submitted a request for Ropsten testnet Merge configuration code on Monday, indicating that the implementation is ready.

Ropsten was one of several test networks created by the Ethereum Foundation in 2017 and is now managed by the Geth development team.

This particular test network is considered the best application for Ethereum mainnet because it follows a similar network structure. This allows developers to perform a realistic deployment test before performing actual mainnet network.

The Ropsten testnet Merge test network will see a proof-of-work (PoW) network integrated into the new proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus layer test network, scheduled for May 30. This will mimic what will happen when the real merger between Ethere and the Beacon Chain finally takes place and becomes the PoS network.

Community developers publish their support for testing networks online. Preston Van Loon, developer of the Ethereum core at Prysmatic Labs, said:

Another lead developer who went through trent_vanepps on Twitter last week before Ropsten confirmed on June 8 that Sepolia and Georli’s test networks could also be set up for merge tests.

The timeline of the testnet is particularly in line with comments from Ethereum developer Tim Beiko, who announced last month that Merge was not ready to launch until “a few months after June.”
